Passenger traffic through Armenia’s airports grew 25.5% in Jan-Aug 2017, as reported by Sergey Avetisyan, head of the General Department of Civil Aviation of Armenia.
As many as 1,668,000 people have used Zvartnots and Shirak airports’ services over a period between January and August 2017. “Passenger traffic was recorded at 293,000 in August alone, which is 14.9% more than one year earlier.
Avetisyan said 26 air companies operate 30 to 35 flights in Armenia’s territory every day.
“The number of cities where aircrafts fly rose as well – Astana, Brussels, Minsk and Baghdad joined the row of these cities,” he said. “It was necessary to make efforts to open route to Tel Aviv. This success, perhaps, will contribute to attraction of Israeli air companies to Armenia.”
Avetisyan also said that passenger traffic through Armenian airports exceeded 2 million people in 2016 reaching 2,118,000.
As many as 14,986 tons of cargoes have been carried through these airports as well over the mentioned period, and this is by 54% more than one year before.
“The growth of freight traffic is due to many factors, such as the country’s increased exports and new routes opened over the year,” Avetisyan said.
